Come to China…without the 24-hour flight! Sound impossible? Not with Wofford College’s STARTALK program. Based on the success of the 2013-2019 programs, Wofford has been awarded a STARTALK grant again this year. The STARTALK program is dedicated to increasing the number of Americans learning, speaking and teaching critical-need foreign languages like Chinese. This summer, join STARTALK Summer Chinese Virtual Program at Wofford College and find yourself transported to China by engaging and being inspired by the Chinese language and culture.

This year, Wofford intends to continue offering the program free of charge. STARTALK @Wofford hopes to give students access to a language and culture they might not find at their home school. The program also encourages students to continue with Chinese studies in hopes that they become global citizens with cross-cultural competence who are prepared to succeed in the 21st century.

While STARTALK @Wofford is free, students must be passionate, motivated and have demonstrated academic excellence. Students also need to have access to a personal computer and stable WiFi. We will only accept 40 rising 6th to graduating 12th graders. Priority is given to students who demonstrate an understanding of the challenges specific to virtual language learning and who show an ability to succeed in this different learning environment. Priority also will be given to those who are committed to further developing their language skills and cultural knowledge after participating in the STARTALK program.
