STARTALK

Come to China…without the 20-hour flight!

Sound impossible? Not with Wofford College’s STARTALK program. Based on the success of the 2013-2021 programs, Wofford has been awarded a STARTALK grant again this year. The STARTALK program is dedicated to increasing the number of Americans learning, speaking and teaching critical need foreign languages like Chinese. Join the 2023 STARTALK Summer Chinese Program at Wofford College: An Exchange Experience in Digital China, and develop functional Chinese language skills and explore technology use in the Chinese-speaking world.

This year, Wofford intends to continue offering the program free of charge. STARTALK at Wofford hopes to give students access to a language and culture they might not find at their home school. The program also wants to encourage students to continue with Chinese studies in hopes that they become global citizens with cross-cultural competence who are prepared to succeed in the 21st century.

While STARTALK at Wofford is free, students must be passionate, motivated and have demonstrated academic excellence. As we will only be accepting 45 rising 6th to graduating 12th graders, priority is given to students who can attend all activities in the program, consisting of 20 hours pre-camp game-based asynchronous learning activities in the spring, two-week intensive day camp (8:45 a.m.-4:15 p.m., June 19-30), and self-paced post-camp language and cultural projects in the fall.
