History Note: For many years, the Annual Conference’s Board of Education was the chief ministry agency of the Annual Conference and was the only agency that employed full-time staff members. It oversaw functions that later became part of the Council of Ministries. These included higher education and campus ministry, discipleship, camps and retreats, age-level work, youth and young adult ministries, stewardship, evangelism, and certifying directors and workers in Christian education. The board consisted of clergy and lay members chosen by the Annual Conference and was administered by an executive secretary and other assistants.
