Biographical note:  The Rev. Wain Marvin Owings was born in Owings, SC, in Laurens County, in 1874.  He attended the Wofford Fitting School and graduated from Wofford College in 1898.  After teaching in the rural schools for several years, he joined the South Carolina Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in 1906, was ordained a deacon in 1907 and an elder in 1909.  He served Methodist congregations in the South Carolina upcountry from around 1905 until his retirement in 1946.  He died in December 1949.  

Organization note: As a small collection, this is not broken into series, but it does consist of a mixture of clippings, articles, and sermon notes.

Summary note: The collection consists of some personal materials, church school literature, articles and news clippings, and the handwritten and typed notes from a collection of sermons he delivered over the course of his ministry.
