Steve Traylor is the Director of Student Activities & Campus Recreation at Wofford College, and also serves as an Instructor of Physical Education. He earned the B.A. in 1973 from Otterbein College [Ohio], where he earned 12 varsity letters over 4 years, in football, basketball, and baseball. He was also a team captain, MVP, and all-conference performer in each sport. He was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for athletic and academic excellence in 1973, and earned the M.A. from the Ohio State University in 1974.
He then served as Assistant Football Coach and PE Instructor at Otterbein College for 3 years [1973-76], before being named Head Basketball Coach, Director of Athletics, and PE Instructor at Greensboro College [NC] in 1976, where he served for 3 years [1976-79]. Then in 1979, he was hired at Florida Atlantic University to institute the first intercollegiate baseball program in FAU history, and served as Head Baseball Coach and Recreation Coordinator for 8 years [1979-87]. After being named NAIA District 25 Coach-of-the-Year in 1983, and leading FAU to numerous NAIA and NCAA post-season appearances, Traylor was named Head Baseball Coach at Duke University in 1987, where he served for 12 years [1987-99]. While at Duke, he was named ACC Coach-of-the-Year in 1992, and finished his Duke career as the 2 nd winningest baseball coach in Duke history.
In 1999, Traylor was named Head Baseball Coach and PE Instructor at Wofford College [SC], and served in that capacity for 8 years [1999-2007]. After claiming the 2007 Southern Conference Baseball Championship, he stepped down as Head Baseball Coach, and assumed the role of Director of Intramurals, Recreation & Club Sports, as well as continuing to serve as a PE Instructor. He is currently serving as Director of Student Activities & Campus Recreation, and PE Instructor at Wofford.
Traylor has been inducted into 3 Halls-of-Fame [Westerville High School Athletics HOF, Otterbein College Athletics HOF, and Florida Atlantic Athletics HOF]. Steve is married to Debbie Goforth-Traylor, and has 2 adult children. Danielle is a 2011 graduate of Furman University, and Ryan is a 2013 Graduate of Wofford College, where he was a pitcher on the baseball team.
