A team of faculty advises and guides interested students toward meeting the expectations and requirements of medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, optometry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nurse practitioner and physician assistant school. Wofford’s rigorous liberal arts curriculum, with a variety of opportunities like study abroad and January interim clinical internships, prepares students to apply to these schools.
Dr. Natalie Spivey, associate professor of biology, coordinates health careers advising. She teaches Introduction to Genetics and Molecular Biology as well as more advanced courses. She works with Wofford alumni in the health sciences to arrange mock graduate school interviews and coordinates internships with various health care professionals. In addition, Spivey hosts campus visits with medical school admission counselors from the region, which provides Wofford students with the opportunity to make connections with these schools.
Fatima Mohammed was a biology and Spanish double- major who completed study abroad experiences in Chile and Spain. She volunteered with campus organizations, such as Arcadia Volunteer Corps, and conducted summer work at Scripps Research in California. She is continuing her education at the Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Medicine. “Wofford provided a great educational foundation for my graduate learning,” she says.
