Historical note: The Student Affairs Office, headed by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, is a fairly recent administrative unit in the college. Before World War II, an officer known as the Dean handled many affairs that both the Dean of the College and the Dean of Students handle today. In the years after World War II, as the college administration expanded, an official was designated Dean of Students. The office oversees student housing, health services, security, student government and discipline, student organizations and social affairs.
Organization: The materials are divided into 10 series, Dean of Students, Residence Life, Multicultural Affairs, Health Services, Public Safety, Student Government, Student Judiciary, Student Life and Events, Student Organizations, and Social Fraternities and Sororities.
Access: Unrestricted.
Summary: The Student Affairs records consist of minutes, reports, and memoranda generated by the Student Affairs professional staff. Some of these files are in series, such as the student handbooks, Dean of Students Daily Bulletin and Grapevine, while others are organized by subject. Student organization files generally contain newspaper clippings and other ephemera relating to those organizations. Researchers should also see the minutes of the faculty Student Affairs Committee.
