Professional Development Opportunities

As part of the Office of International Programs' mission, our team is committed to connecting faculty and staff with professional development opportunities overseas. Below you may find a list of opportunities for your consideration; please contact Amy Lancaster, Dean of International Programs, with any questions.

Site Visits

Wofford’s most popular (and most affordable) international professional development opportunity is a variety of annual site visits to programs abroad. Fees vary, but they are heavily subsidized by Wofford’s partner organizations. These opportunities are announced in the fall semester and most commonly take place during one week in the spring semester. Applications would be considered and funded separately by the Provost in consultation with the Office of International Programs.

Faculty Development Seminars

Offered by CIEE and SIT Study Abroad most recently, faculty development seminars offer participants the opportunity to become deeply engaged in a topic through lectures, site visits, and connections to local academics, researchers, and other resources. Fees and length of programs vary. Many fall during the summer months with application deadlines in the spring. Applications would be considered and funded separately by the Faculty Development Committee and the Provost in consultation with the Office of International Programs.

Teaching Abroad

Faculty may apply to teach at one of Wofford’s partner sites overseas while on leave or during the summer. Course loads, compensation, and application cycles vary. The planning cycle and possible visa implications require interested visiting faculty to apply at least eighteen months before the start of the term in which they would teach. Contact Amy Lancaster for more information about the application process.
