The Southern Conference announced its 2016 men's basketball postseason awards on Tuesday, with Fletcher Magee honored as Freshman of the Year.

Magee was named freshman of the year by the coaches and media, and also earned his way onto the media all-conference third team.

Magee led the nation in free throw shooting (92.2%) and ranked fourth in the country in 3-point field goal percentage (47.5%) on his way to being named Southern Conference Freshman of the Year. He led all SoCon players with 85 triples, while his 13.5 points per game overall and 15.1 points per game in conference play led all SoCon freshmen.

"Fletcher Magee put together a tremendous freshman year," Young added. "He continued to get better and played his best basketball over the last three weeks. He has an insatiable thirst for getting better, understanding the game better and making his teammates better. I am fortunate to coach him and we are all glad he's at Wofford."

Magee's season was highlighted by a 34-point performance inside Benjamin Johnson Arena on Feb. 8 against VMI. The Orlando, Fla., native shot an incredible 9-for-10 from beyond the arc and connected on his first seven attempts before halftime. Magee helped Wofford set a new NCAA record that night for 3-point field goal percentage in a game (min. 20 attempts), with the Terriers finishing 17-of-21 (81%) en route to a 92-60 victory.

Magee is the third player in program history to be named Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, joining Ian Chadwick (1998) and Karl Cochran (2012).

The SoCon also named Wofford senior Spencer Collins to the All-Conference first team.

Wofford (15-16, 11-7 SoCon) begins its run in the 2016 Southern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, presented by General Shale, in the quarterfinals on Saturday. The fourth-seeded Terriers and fifth-seeded Western Carolina Catamounts tip at 2:30 p.m. The entire tournament is being hosted at U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, N.C.
