Email Policy

We welcome your interest and contact while also valuing your privacy. Note that email is not an appropriate method for individual questions regarding personal/confidential issues. You may email Counseling Services to request general information regarding services, resources, or other campus information. If you choose to use email to communicate with your therapist, please understand the limitations of doing so.  We encourage you to use the Secure Message feature on the Patient Portal to discuss information related to your treatment.  Neither email nor secure messaging should be used in emergencies. In those situations, please come to the Wellness Center, call Campus Safety, or call 911. *Email should not be used for urgent communication of any sort.*

Appointment Policy

If you repeatedly schedule appointments and do not show up for them, we may not be able to provide services to you. Emergency appointments are available to students who may be experiencing a crisis situation. Emergencies during office hours are handled as soon as possible. In case of an evening or weekend crisis, you may call the Terrier Care Line at 864-597-4393.  For more information regarding this policy, please refer to our Services and Scheduling page.

Continuity of Care Statement

Counseling Services staff are only able to provide direct clinical services to students when they are enrolled in the current term and when classes are in session. If students are not enrolled or withdraw from the college, they are not able to access Counseling Services. In addition, during any academic breaks, students may still access support from the Terrier Care Line (Wofford's 24-hour Mental Health Support Line - 864-597-4393) and/or from a provider at home.

Social Media Statement

Counselors do not accept friend or follow requests from clients. Social Media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) is considered public communication. Connecting on these platforms could compromise your confidentiality. Interacting on these platforms could create the possibility that these exchanges would become part of counseling records.

As we understand that clients will go on to graduate and may encounter former counselors in another capacity that is no longer within the scope of the therapeutic relationship, there may be the opportunity to make case-by-case decisions a certain number of years after graduation. However, your counselor will never initiate an invitation to connect on social media.

Emotional Support Animal Statement

Wofford Counseling Services staff are not able to provide assessments, recommendations, or documentation to support the need for an Emotional Support Animal. ESAs are viewed under the Federal Housing Act as a "reasonable accommodation" for those who have a mental disability. Wofford College guidelines and procedures for ESAs can be found by visiting the Accessibility Services website.
