An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. In most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims.
Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to victims.
Bomb threats or suspicious items should always be taken seriously. How quickly and safely you react to a bomb threat could save lives, including your own. What should you do?

Wofford College is dedicated to protecting the campus community’s employees, visitors and students. The building captain program was established to facilitate timely, logical and appropriate emergency operations for each building. Building captains will coordinate evacuation or shelter operations and training for their assigned building or buildings. The program is a key component of the Wofford College emergency operations and all hazards response plans. Each participant in this program provides a valuable service to the campus community.
Emergencies such as fires, explosions, chemical spills and/or releases require occupants to evacuate the building. Evacuation is one means of protecting the campus community from the effects of a hazard through the orderly movement of people away from the hazard. The type and magnitude of the emergency will dictate the scale of an evacuation (i.e., evacuation area). At the link below are the evacuation assembly areas for each building or venue on campus.
In the event of a critical incident where hazardous (including chemical, biological or radiological) materials may have been released into the atmosphere either accidentally or intentionally, a decision to shelter in place may be the preferred method of safely waiting out the release.

Precautionary/Preparedness actions:
Take shelter inside a building, away from windows and doors. Make sure there are as many walls and floors between you and the outside as possible. Note that vehicles and mobile homes should be abandoned for sturdier shelter.
If you are on Wofford's campus, and can safely do so, proceed to the designated emergency location in the building you're in or the closet building, if you are outside.
