Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts 

The 65,000 square-foot Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts is home to academic programs in theatre, studio art and art history and contains numerous performance and display venues. More than being a showcase for the permanent Chihuly sculptures, Wofford’s permanent art and artifacts collections, student artwork and works by visiting artists, the Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts is a place that enhances the student experience for all Wofford students – not just those majoring or minoring in studio arts, art history or theatre.

Inside the Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts 

Jerome Johnson Richardson Theatre

A state-of-the-art performance venue with specialty lighting, exceptional acoustics, a full stage and fly-loft, orchestra pit and a catwalk system, the Jerome Johnson Richardson Theatre seats approximately 320 guests and includes a balcony and four individual seating boxes. The theatre can accommodate a speaker and includes a large projection screen and projector. the lobby of the theatre is designed to host pre-function events and includes a catering kitchen and indoor and outdoor spaces for entertainment. 

Sallenger Sisters Black Box Theatre

The Sallenger Sisters Black Box Theatre is a multi-purpose space designed for unique performances as well as rehearsals and practice sessions. In addition, the space will serve as an instructional space for a variety of coursework at Wofford College. The theatre includes specialty lighting and acoustics, a catwalk system, a suspended flooring system and access to the loading dock. 

Richardson Family Art Gallery

The Richardson Family Art Gallery is designed to accommodate a variety of options for the display of student artwork with the ability to have other exhibits and displays as well. Located adjacent to the main lobby of the building with a transparent entry, the gallery features walls that open to the lobby allowing for pre-function entertainment as well as the ability to combine events in the gallery and the theater. The Richardson Family Art Gallery is open 1-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 1-9 p.m. Thursday; and is closed Sunday and Monday.

Richardson Family Art Museum

The Richardson Family Art Museum will accommodate Wofford College's permanent collection as well as special exhibits and the work of guest artists. The space is located on two separate floors, but it is connected visually and physically with a large opening in the floor, which enhances both spaces. The space features specialty lighting, a security system and humidity controls. The Richardson Family Art Museum is open 1-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 1-9 p.m. Thursday; and is closed Sunday and Monday.

Other Spaces

The building also contains five art studios, three classrooms, and a seminar room for art instruction as well as spaces for art storage and curatorial work. An acting studio, green room, dressing rooms, costume shop and scenery shop support the theatre program. Faculty in the building have 10 offices, studio space, and a conference room.

Chihuly Glasswork

Welcoming visitors as they enter the Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts from the main parking lot, Goldenrod and Crimson Persian Chandelier (2016) measures 13 x 8 x 8' and is composed of approximately 125 Persian Chandelier elements in various shades of red, orange and yellow.

A beacon of color and light that will greet guests as they enter the Center for the Arts from the campus, Cerise and Amber Persian Ceiling (2016) measures 5 x 19 x 9 1/2' and is composed of approximately 177 Persian elements in similar warm autumnal tones.
