Wofford student elected to Methodist post

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kris Roof, a Wofford College rising junior from North Augusta, S.C., is one of five United Methodist college students recently elected to the Division on Ministries with Young People of the United Methodist Church.

Roof was elected to the position at the 2004 UM Student Forum, held at Hendrix College in Conway, AK. He attended with Wofford chaplain Dr. Ron Robinson and associate chaplain Lyn Pace, along with five other Wofford students.

Roof will be a delegate to the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference held in July. As a delegate, he will participate in electing the new bishops of the church. As a member of the conference’s Committee on the Episcopacy, Roof also will help place bishops in the various Southeastern conferences.

Roof, a sociology major, is working at Lake Junaluska, NC, this summer. He plans to attend divinity school after graduation from Wofford.

He has served as chairman of the Conference Council on Youth Ministries, a statewide group that coordinates youth activities for the South Carolina Conference of the UMC. He also was appointed to the Southeastern Jurisdictional Youth Ministries Organization and as its representative to the United Methodist Youth Organization, the global agency responsible for youth ministry of the UMC. He also was a member of the Youth 2003 Design Team. Roof, a graduate of North Augusta High School, is a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Roof is a Community Service Scholar; co-chair of the Wofford Activities Council; member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity; Wofford Ambassador; Campus Union delegate; and is active of several music groups, including Wofford Singers and the Show Choir. He is the son of Terry and Ederlina Roof of North Augusta.
