At the age of 45, after staying home with the boys for over 10 years, I went to graduate school and started a new career. It will come as no suprise to Professor Keenan that I now teach middle school math!

I’m taking classes in hand-drawn and computer graphics, preservation law, architectural history, and the principles and practices of preservation. I’m loving the classes here, even though I miss Wofford! Wofford prepared me so well for this program with the classes I took. I majored in History and Sociology and minored in Art History. I really feel like Historic Preservation is a great combination of all 3 departments and my interest in the history that surrounds us everyday!

Submitted October 08, 2012
After 1 year of graduate work in the field of my Wofford Major, Art History I went back to the "family profession" of food and beverage. While in Athens, GA I began working under Chef Peter Dale at The National. Dale and his mentor and sometimes business partner, Hugh Atcheson (of Top Chef Masters fame) are regarded as two of the best chefs in the Southeast. During my time there I really fell in love with the restaurant world again and honed my skills in the kitchen before deciding to come back to my hometown at help my father with his restaurant, Southside Smokehouse. Since being back I’ve remodeled and added new, eclectic and upscale menu items while keeping the BBQ favorites of the past. Adding locally sourced produce, vegetarian options and seasonal beers I’ve tried to stay true to the roots food we’ve always been known for while adding a little of the Athens foodie culture I have come to love.

This particular location they got us good and tired weeding the grounds and painting buildings and then we helped with the after school program for 25+ kids. By the end of the day my arms and legs were covered in "washable" marker tattoos. After this day I have no immediate plans to have children!
