Certification Suggestions

Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
The CMA is issued by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). It is designed to recognize professionalism in the field of managerial accounting and is suitable for either an accounting or a finance major. The applicant must pass a four part exam and satisfy an experience requirement. The exam may be taken when you are a senior or after graduation. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) 
The CPA is a licensure/certification issued through a state government. State laws vary regarding requirements to sit for the CPA and requirements, such as experience, to obtain certification. Most states now require an applicant to have earned 150 credit hours before sitting for the exam. However, specific details, such as courses required, vary. If you are interested in pursuing certification in a particular state, contact that state's board of accountancy or visit its website.  If you are interested in pursuing certification in South Carolina visit South Carolina's Board of Accountancy.

Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) 
The Chartered Financial Analyst credential is issued by the CFA Institute.  It is one of the most respected designations in finance.  Candidates are required to pass three levels of exams.  For more information please visit the CFA Institute's website:

Certified Financial Planner (CFP) 
The CFP certification is issued by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.  It is awarded to individuals who successfully complete the CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements.  Please see the CFP Board's website for more information:
