Summer Immersion Program in Health Sciences and Medicine

Are you a teen who is eager to learn more about the world of medicine and healthcare? If so, please consider participating in the Wofford College Summer Immersion Program in Health Sciences and Medicine. This program is a unique, week-long transformative experience in which you will learn from distinguished healthcare professionals and professors by way of a variety of hands-on and engaged learning activities, setting you apart in high school and beyond. Wofford College is a leader in preparing young people for careers in medicine and healthcare, with a distinctive history that includes over 566 living alumni who are Doctors of Medicine.

When does the immersion program take place?
Sunday, June 7-Friday, June 12

Who can apply to the program?
Teens between the ages of 13-16

Where is the program location?
The beautiful 195-acre campus of Wofford College is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Students will also go off campus (transportation provided) to visit local partners.

What is the cost for the program?
Full tuition is $1,200 (which includes the $200 deposit required to hold your spot once you have applied).

Sample Day in Summer Program

  • 8 a.m. – Breakfast
  • 9 a.m. – Welcome from program director and student ambassadors
  • 9:30 a.m. – Introduction to heart rate testing at Spartanburg Medical Center and Hospital
  • 10:30 a.m. – Approaches to testing and measuring heart rate at Spartanburg Medical Center and Hospital
  • Noon – Lunch
  • 1:30 p.m. – Tour of Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium and meeting with basketball team physician on the topic of heart rate testing and wellness of college student-athletes
  • 4 p.m. – Debrief of the day
  • 5 p.m. – Dinner
  • 6:30 p.m. – Evening activities (i.e. bowling, Spartanburgers baseball game, etc.)
  • 9:30 p.m. – Bed
