Mission Statement

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning promotes effective and innovative teaching practices that engage and cultivate student learning. We believe the best teachers continue to reflect on their practices in order to create rich learning environments and further develop their teaching.

We promote a community of teacher-scholars who value pedagogy, diversity, scholarship, collaboration and conversations about what it means to teach and generate scholarship at Wofford.

To achieve this mission, we:

  • Engage faculty members at all points in their careers.
  • Introduce new faculty to reflective teaching practices and encourage reflexive adjustments based on feedback.
  • Offer speaker series that promote best practices and help us understand the complexities of good teaching.
  • Sponsor faculty learning communities that engage faculty and staff in conversations about teaching and learning on a variety of subjects.
  • Consult with faculty and offer resources on assignment design, classroom engagement, formative assessment, ePortfolio practices, digital pedagogy and course assessment.
  • Support scholars pursuing projects grounded in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of projects at the intersection of the digital and the liberal arts.
