Wofford Theatre is a dynamic, artistically and academically rigorous program where students develop the habits of artistic and intellectual excellence: hard work, integrity, courage, collaboration, creativity, fun and play. With small class sizes and a strong sense of ensemble, students receive individualized mentorship while participating in an active season of performances, workshops and student-driven projects. Whether you’re pursuing theatre as a career or as a passion alongside another major, Wofford Theatre provides the space and support to grow as an artist and engaged individual.

Any student admitted to Wofford College can declare a theatre major or minor—there is no separate application process. However, if you are interested in being considered for a theatre scholarship, you should reach out to our theatre faculty to schedule an audition. More information can be found here: wofford.edu/admission/scholarships/performance-based-scholarships/theatre-scholarship.

We also encourage prospective students to visit campus, meet our faculty and attend a performance to get a sense of our program.

While you do not need to audition to declare a theatre major or minor, students interested in theatre scholarships must complete an audition for theatre faculty. Requirements vary depending on your area of interest:

  • Actors: Two contrasting monologues (each under one minute) or one monologue and one song.
  • Designers/Technical Theatre Students: Submit a portfolio.
  • Playwrights: Submit complete works or fragments.
  • All scholarship applicants: Include a résumé, a one-page personal statement and a recommendation from a director or teacher who knows your work well.

Auditions for Wofford Theatre’s main-stage productions are open to all students, regardless of major or experience level. Auditions typically involve monologues, cold readings or movement work, depending on the production. Audition notices are posted well in advance, and students are encouraged to reach out to theatre faculty to join their mailing list for audition updates and opportunities.

Yes! Wofford Theatre productions are open to all students, and we welcome both seasoned performers and newcomers. Many non-majors find theatre to be a creative home while pursuing other academic paths.

We produce three main-stage productions each year, offering a mix of contemporary plays, classics, musicals, new works and devised theatre. Additionally, we support student-driven projects, staged readings and special performance events throughout the year.

Pulp Theatre is Wofford’s only all-student theatre group, giving students complete creative control over every aspect of a production during Interim. From acting and directing to design and technical work, Pulp Theatre is an opportunity to take the lead and bring bold, provocative musicals to life.

With a history of staging cult favorites like Reefer Madness, The Rocky Horror Show, Evil Dead: The Musical, Urinetown, and HAIR, Pulp Theatre has entertained more than 10,000 audience members—and counting! This high-energy, immersive experience is perfect for anyone looking to dive into theatre in a fun, intense and (almost) professor-free environment.

Yes! Wofford Theatre encourages students to pursue internships with professional theatres, arts organizations and festivals. Faculty members help students identify and apply for internships that align with their interests, and Wofford’s Career Center provides additional support.

Beyond main-stage productions and Pulp Theatre, students can participate in devised theatre projects, staged readings, student showcases and interdisciplinary performances. Students can join the many choral and music ensembles found in Wofford’s music program. Our theatre courses often culminate in performances, and we regularly bring in guest artists for workshops and special projects.
