Jenny Bem

Associate Professor of Accounting

Jenny Johnson Bem earned her B.S.B.A. and M.S.A. degrees from Appalachian State University. She primarily teaches tax accounting, but also is interested in financial literacy and individual tax planning. She appreciates the close relationships that she has with her fellow faculty members and her students. Away from Wofford, she enjoys her children, animals, a good nap and a good cup of coffee.

Benjamin Cartwright

Associate Professor of Accounting

Benjamin Cartwright teaches financial accounting, cost accounting and auditing. He also focuses his research on those three areas. He holds a B.S. degree in international business from Messiah College and a master’s of accountancy from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He appreciates his colleagues and students, who make Wofford a great place to teach. In his leisure time he enjoys rock climbing, trail running, mountain biking, paddling and anything else done outdoors.

Diane S. Farley

Associate Professor of Accounting

Diane S. Farley teaches financial accounting and auditing. Those topics also comprise her scholarly interests. She earned her B.A. degree in accounting from Wofford and her master’s of accountancy from the University of South Carolina. She also is a licensed certified public accountant. She enjoys being able to get to know students on a personal level, and says working closely with students is the best part of teaching.

Lillian E. Gonzalez

Professor of Accounting

Lillian E. Gonzalez, CPA, CFE, is a 1991 Wofford graduate, having earned her B.A. degrees in accounting and economics. She received a master’s of professional accountancy from Clemson University. Gonzalez teaches accounting and auditing, and focuses on ethics and fraud auditing. She says she enjoys the opportunity to work closely with students in coursework, advising and professional development.

Dr. Ryan Johnson

Associate Professor of Accounting

Dr. Ryan Johnson’s decade in public accounting helped him understand that most accounting students need more than just the science of accounting. They need to see how other fields, especially liberal arts disciplines, are critical to their success in accounting and beyond. As a first-generation college student himself, he tries to find ways to help others make their way on campus, and in the professional world beyond. His accounting research interests center around the historical development of the Internal Revenue Code, particularly in the context of the U.S. Presidency – from Ronald Reagan to the present. In higher education administration, his research ranges from issues of race and academic success to analysis of the financial health of colleges and universities. Away from Wofford enjoys trout fishing, hiking, playing golf and kayaking.

Dr. Patrick M. Stanton

Assistant Professor of Finance

Patrick Stanton’s teaching interests include business finance, financial statement analysis, corporate financial analysis and behavioral finance. He holds a B.S. degree in business administration from Mississippi College, and an MBA and DBA in finance from Louisiana Tech University. His scholarly interests are microfinance, behavioral finance and international corporate finance. Away from Wofford, he enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, running, cooking, playing tennis and finding new hobbies.

Dr. Jim Stevens

Assistant Professor of Finance

Dr. Jim Stevens’ teaching interests include real estate, corporate finance and financial markets. His research focuses on gentrification, neighborhood change, corporate finance and real estate investment trusts. He earned his B.S. degree from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. He likes that Wofford College allows for great breadth in courses. He enjoys being able to teach intro to finance, real estate and bank management, and he has found students engaging and curious. In his leisure time he enjoys bicycle maintenance and riding, hiking, swimming and woodworking.

Dr. Philip Swicegood

R. Michael James Professor/Business and Finance

Dr. Philip Swicegood teaches courses on investments, real estate finance, banking and business ethics. He earned his B.S. from Liberty University, an MBA from the University of Texas and his Ph.D. from Florida State University. He says engaging students each day in and out of the classroom transforms his role as professor “into a joyful vocation.” Away from Wofford he enjoys spending time with his wife of more than 25 years and their two daughters. He enjoys reading great literature and fly fishing.
