The Wofford College bell tolls three times for each student: once during their first week on campus, once at their graduation and one final time on All Saint’s Day to mark their death.

This year’s All Saints Day of Remembrance Tolling of the Bell was held on Nov. 3 at the seal of Main Building. The bell rang 168 times to mark the loss of Wofford alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends in the past year.

The ceremony was led by the Rev. Dr. Ron Robinson ’78, Perkins-Prothro Chaplain and Professor of Religion, who was joined by six Wofford students to read the names as the bell was tolled. Wofford Singers performed “The Road Home” by Stephen Paulus in their memory.

“Each of the names has Wofford as part of their story, and they are part of Wofford’s story,” says Robinson. “We gather here to remember them and remember that we are a part of something that matters deeply to all of us.”
