One of my favorite traditions of the fall is the Order of 1854 induction ceremony during Family Weekend. It’s such a meaningful event, one that recognizes students and alumni with a family tradition of Wofford attendance that spans at least two generations. This fall, 50 legacies joined our community as first-year students. That’s an incredible testament to the staying power of the Wofford experience and another indication of the college’s focus on student success.
Photos from the event, as well as other photos from Family Weekend and Homecoming, are featured in this issue of Wofford Today. Also featured are presidential legacies, beginning with Dr. William Wightman, the college’s first president, and continuing through Dr. Joe Lesesne and Dr. Bernie Dunlap, my immediate predecessors. Considering their legacies of service was important to the development of the leadership profile for the next president, a version of which is in this Wofford Today as well.
Also read about the legacy of Brand Stille ’86, who retired this summer after 38 years in enrollment, and meet other alumni on staff at the college who have joined the campus community or have been promoted recently and are making their marks on the Wofford experience.
The Wofford community’s legacy of leadership, scholarship and service has set the stage for the college’s current and future success. I’m honored to be a part of that.
Go Terriers!
