
Nick Beraho ’20
A graduate of the USC School of Medicine in Greenville, Dr. Nick Beraho is a first-year general surgery resident at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. “Coming into Wofford as a very shy and reserved student, my experience as a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and volunteering on and off campus allowed me to break out of my shell. … The better you understand the circumstances of others, the deeper your empathy for others will grow.”

Caroline Byrd ’23
Caroline Byrd founded Business Bumble, a marketing agency established in March 2024. In addition, Byrd serves as the director of marketing at Accelerating Nature, a company specializing in bioremediation solutions. Byrd earned a master’s in marketing from Clemson University, discovering her passion for helping businesses grow and distinguish themselves in competitive markets. “Wofford is truly a one-of-a-kind place. I will forever be grateful to the college for the solid foundation it has given me.”

Lucy Derrick ’24
Lucy Derrick is a student engagement specialist for the Alpine Achievers Initiative with AmeriCorps in Monte Vista, Colo. Derrick contributes to the organization’s mission by tutoring children in academic fields such as reading and math, leading them in outdoor activities and supporting and encouraging them as a mentor. “Being in Greek life at Wofford and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta cemented my love of service and encouraged me to make a positive impact in my community.”

Courtney Hrubala ’22
Courtney Hrubala is the campaign development manager at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Chicago, Ill. One of her responsibilities is recruiting and mentoring high school students during a seven-week challenge to raise funds for LLS’s mission. “One thing I truly appreciate about Wofford is the emphasis on collaboration and leadership. Wofford is a catalyst for a successful career for those who engage in new opportunities, get involved, try new things and, most importantly, enjoy the journey!”

Omari Johnson ’21
Helping bridge the gap between clinicians and technology, Omari Johnson is a vascular access territory manager with Becton, Dickinson and Co. in San Antonio, Texas. He provides technical support for vascular access devices while also serving as the liaison between healthcare and manufacturing facilities. “The sociology department helped me understand that every person has a nuanced life and taught me how to actively listen to meet people where they are. To this day, I have a support system from Wofford that challenges me to grow and evolve.”

Caroline Mathisen ’23
Caroline Mathisen joined Beacon Community Bank in Charleston, S.C., following graduation and is a mortgage loan coordinator while training to become a mortgage lender. She says working at a community bank has given her the opportunity to give back to her hometown. She recently joined the Wofford Lowcountry Young Alumni Board and has enjoyed planning events for alumni in the area. Her advice to current students: “Enjoy college to the fullest and take time to connect with Wofford alums while at Wofford and after graduation.”
