Re: In-person classes and Wellness Level 3

Well done, Terriers! We’re back to in-person instruction on Monday, Feb. 8. We are also moving to Wellness Level 3, effective immediately! That means:

  • 4 people are now allowed in residence hall rooms, masked and socially distanced.
  • 8 people are now allowed in apartments or on senior village porches (8 total, inside and out), masked and socially distanced.
  • In-person dining is open with a maximum of 4 per table, properly distanced.

The threat of COVID-19 spread is still elevated, and it remains best to limit contact to small groups of trusted friends. Students, staff and faculty have done a good job of keeping COVID-19 case counts down, so continue the good work. It’s important to note that we still have 9 weeks until spring semester finals. After that, it will be important to make good decisions so we can return after spring break to a successful Interim and Commencement Weekend.

To reach these goals, we must continue to work together: wearing masks, maintaining physical distance of at least 6 feet, practicing careful hand hygiene, limiting our trips off campus and completing the Daily COVID-19 Symptom Tracker (There’s a link to this each day at the top of the Daily Announcements). Spartanburg County continues to be a hot spot, so if you do go off campus, wear your masks, wash your hands and limit your exposure to others.

Please note the following updates:

  • Students may once again dine in person in Burwell. Please limit seating to 4 per table and limit your time in the dining room so others can enjoy dine-in privileges. Follow the directional signs and maintain physical distance. Wear a mask unless actively eating or drinking. Zach’s and the Galleria are also open each day for dine in or carry out.
  • Our new surveillance testing program will randomly test 600 students, faculty and staff on a weekly basis to identify and limit asymptomatic cases. Students selected for random testing will have their names entered into a drawing for gift cards after they complete their tests.
  • The Department of Athletics is working on attendance plans for all venues. Starting now, the families of student-athletes are allowed to attend games. If case counts on campus remain down, we will begin allowing a limited number of students to attend the women’s basketball game vs. Samford on Saturday, Feb. 13. The athletics attendance plans will prioritize families of student-athletes and current Wofford students. Masks and social distancing will be required. Look for additional information soon.
  • The staff in Campus Life and Student Development continues to work toward a more social experience on campus for students. Please join the men’s basketball watch party this weekend and check the Daily Announcements for event announcements and updates. Also, if your organization would like to plan an event, please talk with the staff in Campus Life and Student Development about risk mitigation strategies.
  • We are finalizing plans for a Terrier Treats Incentive Program to encourage students to complete the Daily COVID-19 Symptom Tracker. Campus Life and Student Development staff will be on the lookout for opportunities to reward students following wellness guidelines.

If we will follow the wellness guidelines and avoid large gatherings, our case counts will remain low and our ability to gather on campus will grow. The administration is committed to in-person instruction and keeping students on campus. We all want to finish the year together safely.

We can do this… together!
