RE: Important reminders

Welcome back! We are so glad that we are all back together on campus. In the days and weeks ahead, we will all need to remain focused on keeping our community safe. If staying together means wearing masks, then we will wear them. If wearing masks means we can gather, then we gather wearing masks.

Here are a few reminders so we get our semester off to a safe and productive start:

MASKS. Everyone, regardless of vaccination status, must properly wear a mask when in public spaces. That means in classrooms, in all dining locations (Burwell, Zach’s, coffee bars, the Galleria) when not actively eating or drinking, in the library, in the fitness center and when you’re in other non-residential buildings and offices. If COVID-19 transmission remains minimal on campus, we will continue to go mask-free outside or in residential spaces and private offices when you are alone. In an auditorium setting with ample space between the speaker and a masked audience, the speaker may remove his or her mask for clarity.

VACCINATION. Everyone in our community — students and employees — is required to get vaccinated for COVID-19. Everyone should be fully vaccinated by Nov. 1. The college will consider legitimate medical or religious exemptions. Visit Wofford.edu/woffordtogether to learn more.

CIVILITY. Because Wofford is a thriving campus, we do not avoid tough conversations. These are much more productive when both parties are civil, respectful and open minded. Let’s all commit to that.

TOBACCO and FIREARMS. Remember, Wofford College is a tobacco free campus; that means any form of tobacco product (cigarettes, cigars, vapes, chewing tobacco, dip, etc.) cannot be used anywhere on campus. Also, firearms are not allowed on campus.

WELCOMING and INCLUSIVE. We know that an environment free from harassment and discrimination is a vital component of a high-quality education and a strong community. Everyone is expected to respect the well-being and human dignity of everyone in our community. The college has a discrimination and harassment reporting form available if you need it.

PARKING. Please park only in legitimate parking spaces. Do not park on Campus Drive; parking on Campus Drive is for emergency and facilities vehicles only. Wofford has many parking lots on the perimeter of campus. Enjoy walking our beautiful grounds when going to Burwell, class or to the fitness center or post office. You’re always welcome to contact Campus Safety if you’d like an escort.

STAYING HEALTHY. In addition to being cautious about COVID-19 (washing hands, masking, maintaining distance), we can also take care of our health by getting enough sleep, eating healthy food, exercising and taking time to decompress. The fitness center in the Mungo Student Center is open from 6 a.m. until midnight each day.

The Wofford Wellness Center has resources available, and our community has access to a 24/7 Mental Health Assistance Line at 864-597-4393.

The staff in the Division of Campus Life & Student Development is here to serve you. We’re located on the second floor of the Mungo Student Center. Reach out for assistance in planning events, starting a club or finding your place at Wofford. The Halligan Center for Religious & Spiritual Life is also a great resource.

We’re still in this together, Terriers! Have a terrific year!
