March will bring an exciting slate of presentations to Wofford’s campus, spanning the fields of history, criminal justice and science fiction. Featured art events will also arrive in April, including the latest installments in Wofford Theatre’s production slate and the Dunlap Chamber Music Series. 

Student work will be open for the community to see during March and April, including the college’s annual juried student art exhibition and Terrier Expo at the end of April.

Monday, March 3-Sunday, June 8
2024 Southern Prize and State Fellowships for Visual Arts
The Richardson Family Art Museum, Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts
Launched in 2017, the South Arts Southern Prize and State Fellowships for Visual Arts project supports some of the best contemporary art in the American South. This exhibition presents work from the nine 2024 fellowship recipients, one from each state in the South Arts region.

History Talk by Dr. Tara Zahra: “Anti Globalism, Then and Now”

Dr. Tara Zahra, the Hanna Holborn Gray Professor of History at the University of Chicago, will give a talk on "Anti-Globalism: Then and Now." Dr. Zahra's books include "Kidnapped Souls: National Indifference and the Battle for Children in the Bohemian Lands" (2008), "The Great Departure: Mass Migrants from Eastern Europe and the Making of the Free World" (2016) and "Against the World: Anti-Globalism and Mass Politics Between the Wars" (2023). 

Monday, March 10
“Convicted but Innocent: An Evening with Kristine Bunch”
5:30 p.m., McMillan Theater, Mungo Student Center
The Innocence Initiative will host an event featuring Kristine Bunch, one of about 300 women in the U.S. wrongfully convicted and later exonerated. In honor of Wrongful Conviction Day, Bunch will share her account of 17 years of imprisonment for a crime she did not commit, along with her journey advocating for justice reform since her exoneration. Her story also highlights unique challenges faced by incarcerated women, particularly access to healthcare. Attorney Jim Morton will provide commentary afterward.

“Hidden History: Sci-Fi Storytelling Meets World War II History”
6 p.m., Olin Theater, Olin Building
Tony Snipes will discuss how history can inform artistic creativity. A Virginia native passionate about American military history, Snipes is the creative force behind the Portsmouth Aeroshipbuilding Company, a futuristic reimagining of World War II had it been fought using flying carriers and other science fiction-inspired technologies. Copies of Mr. Snipes' sketch books and other items will be available will be available for purchase and signature. 

Saturday, March 15
Girl Math
9 a.m., Tony White Theater, Mungo Student Center
Wofford is excited to invite local young women in the Spartanburg community to attend Girl Math, an engaging financial literacy workshop designed specifically to equip high school girls and young adults with the tools and knowledge to build a secure financial future. This experience will cover topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, credit, home-buying, leasing, collegiate financial aid and the hidden rules around hair, attire, professional presence and social capital.

Hipp Lecture Series: Polish Ambassador to the U.S.

The Hipp Lecture Series on International Affairs and National Security was founded in 2011 to capture the attention of students and the public and draw them into important conversations on applying American leadership and ideals to the challenges of international affairs past, present and future.

An Evening with Dr. Lori Bednarchik

Dr. Lori Bednarchik will discuss topics related to sexual assault prevention, consent and conflict management within healthy relationships. This program is part of the Wofford's sexual assault prevention month programming.

Wofford Theatre presents “The Missing Moon”

When Bianca Blue lassos the moon from the sky one night, things get weird. High tides hit, strange stuff washes up on shore and folks host lunar search parties. What happens when the moon ... disappears? Wofford’s first-ever Main Stage show for kids and families, “The Missing Moon” is a tale of friendship, finding our purpose and figuring out that we’re better when we are together. Dunlap Chamber Music Series: Andy Jurik and Kelariz Keshavarz
7 p.m., Leonard Auditorium, Main Building
Guitarist Andy Jurik and Dr. Kelariz Keshavarz will trace a line between the modern musical worlds of Argentina, Iran, France, and Romania through the conversational nature of their guitar and flute duo. The performance is part of the Dunlap Chamber Music Series, founded in 2005 to bring international guest artists to campus.
