As you have learned, Wofford has moved to 100% remote instructions for two weeks. Because you will not be attending classes in person, I wanted you to know that the Campus Life & Student Development Offices, the Wellness Center and the Campus Safety Offices remain open to serve you. In addition, the counselors are available for appointments, and we have immediate support anytime — just call the Wofford Health Support Line at 864-597-4393.

While this two-week “reset” may be difficult, it gives us an opportunity to stop the spread of the virus so there is the possibility that we could hold many of the spring activities we all want to enjoy! I know it is difficult not have friends other than your roommate in your rooms and apartments for these two weeks, but I encourage you to remain vigilant so we can return to in person classes and s we can cheer on the Terriers at basketball, volleyball, football, soccer, tennis and baseball games. We also want to hold recruitment for fraternities and sororities and have a full weekend of Commencement activities. In order to get to this point, we need your help and compliance with Wofford’s COVID-19 Guidelines established by the Return to Campus Working Group, chaired by Dan Deeter, director of business services and risk management.

While we need to be extra vigilant and limit gatherings, there are things you can do:

  • Enjoy Jive Turkey Legs from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. this Friday on the seal of Old Main. The first 150 students eat free, compliments of by Campus Life and Student Activities.
  • The Fitness Center in the Mungo Student Center remains open. Our student monitors will inform you of the occupancy level. We are maintaining it at 50% for these two weeks. Remember to wipe down all the equipment you use in it.
  • Great Oaks Hall, the lobby in the Mungo Student Center and the Library are open for studying. Remember to wear your mask!
  • The lobby of our residence halls are open. Again, wear a mask and physical distance (6 feet minimum). You can gather in groups of no more than 3 in these larger spaces and outside.
  • The game room in the Student Mungo Center is open, and please remember to wipe down all the equipment you use.
  • The disc golf course is open.

If you find yourself having difficulty with online learning, please contact Dr. Boyce Lawton, dean of student success, at lawtonbm@wofford.edu.

I understand some of you have had difficulty with the new wireless system in the residence halls. First you can log into myWofford and enter a request for assistance from ITS. As you know, we replaced WiFi in residence halls and apartments over the December break. Overall, performance has improved. However, there was also a change to the “Terrier devices” network that students use to connect their consumer media devices to our network. This includes game systems, media players like rokus, smart TVs, wireless speakers, etc. Students need to re-register these devices for them to connect. At this time, we have well over 100 active devices connected to the Terrier_devices network.

Please let me know if and when I can be of assistance to you. I am glad you are on campus. Be patient just a bit longer. We’ll get through this together.
