SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Two Wofford College alumni and the CEO of a national real estate development corporation have been elected to the Wofford College Board of Trustees.
Elected today (Wednesday, June 8, 2016) at the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church of South Carolina held in Florence, S.C., are the Rev. William F. Malambri III, class of 1998, pastor at Central United Methodist Church in Florence; James C. Meadors, class of 1981, president of Meadors Inc. in Charleston, S.C.; and Jodie W. McLean, CEO of EDENS, one of the nation’s leading private owners, operators and developers of retail real estate, originating in Columbia, S.C., with offices along the East Coast and in Texas.
The three replace the Rev. B. Mike Alexander, class of 1973; Dr. James E. Bostic Jr.; and J. Harold Chandler, class of 1971, whose terms have expired.
Re-elected to four-year terms were: Justin Converse, class of 1996; Jimmy Gibbs; Laura Hoy; Leon Patterson, class of 1963; and Ed Reeves.
Earlier this year, at its May meeting, the board of trustees elected these officers for the 2016-17 year: R. Michael James, class of 1973, chair; James M. Johnson, class of 1971, vice chair; and Costa M. Pleicones, class of 1965, secretary.
Malambri, a native of Rock Hill, S.C., received his M.Div. from Duke University in 2001 and is a recognized leader in the United Methodist Church in South Carolina.
At Wofford, Malambri was selected as the Presidential International Scholar and was initiated into Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated magna cum laude.
After becoming a full elder in 2004, Malambri served Central United Methodist Church in Florence as an associate pastor before moving to Spartanburg’s St. James United Methodist Church in 2009. In 2012, the moved back to Central UMC in Florence as senior pastor.
Malambri serves on the South Carolina United Methodist Conference’s Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry and its Board of Ordained Ministry. He is a former trustee of Spartanburg Methodist College. He is a member of Rotary International, Helping Florence Flourish Committee and Florence Faith-Based Partnership.
Malambri and his wife, Sally, also a graduate of Wofford, have been continuous supporters of the college. They have two children, Mac, age 11, and Annagray, age 8.
Meadors, a native of South Carolina, is one of the most recognized leaders in the construction industry in the state, particularly in the areas of historic preservation and authenticity. He founded Meadors Inc. in 1985 to focus on the conservation and restoration of historic structures. The company is composed of six workshops or areas of expertise – architecture, construction, conservation and preservation planning, design services, cabinetry and millwork, and estate management and maintenance.
Meadors, who came to Wofford on a full football scholarship and was a First Team All-American his senior year, comes from a long line of Wofford alumni. His father, Bishop M.L. Meadors, class of 1955, is a former Wofford trustee, and two brothers graduated from Wofford. His three children also attended Wofford – daughter Weatherly Meadors, class of 2009; and sons James Campbell Meadors Jr., class of 2012, and John Deering Meadors, class of 2015. He has served on the Alumni Association Board, and he and his wife, Anne, have served on the Parents Advisory Council. They have generously supported numerous projects and programs at the college.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves while at Wofford, and later served on active duty as part of the Army Corps of Engineers.
Meadors has served as chair for the Charleston Green Committee and is chair of the Board of Appeals for the city of Charleston, which he has done for the past 18 years. He is a member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston. He also served as a trustee of Columbia College for 12 years.
McLean, a native of Chicago, Ill., is a business leader formerly from South Carolina and widely known in business circles in the state and the region.
She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and studied at the USC Honors College.
McLean has been a leader at EDENS for more than 20 years, serving as chief investment officer, president and now CEO. She has been responsible for the development, redevelopment, acquisition and disposition of more than $10 billion in retail assets.
She is a current Wofford parent, with a stepdaughter in the class of 2018 and a son in the class of 2019. She recently relocated to the Washington, D.C., area from Columbia, S.C., where she served on the board of the Hammond School. She is on the George Washington University School of Business / Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis Board of Advisors, the South Carolina Honors College Partnership Board and the boards of other institutions and charitable organizations. She is a member of the Liberty Fellowship class of 2009 and was chosen as the 2007 South Carolina Honors College Distinguished Alumna.
