SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College is among the 10 best “small schools with big tailgating traditions,” according to USA Today.

Joe Cahn, who has attended about 1,000 tailgates since 1996 and runs Tailgating.com, shared his favorite tailgating colleges – including Wofford – with USA Today’s Larry Bleiberg in an article published today (Friday, Oct. 30, 2015). Cahn says that while big universities might have larger enrollment, “smaller schools win at hospitality and friendliness,” Bleiberg writes.

“These are places that aren’t on everyone’s bucket list because they don’t know about them,” Cahn says.

Wofford “has one of the most family-friendly tailgating atmospheres” he’s ever seen, Cahn told USA Today. “The children and families that come out there are incredible,” he said. “There’s a lot of desserts and cookies, and a lot of sandwiches and a lot of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.” Lenny Mathis, associate athletics director for marketing and promotions, says he’s pleased that USA Today and Cahn have taken notice of Wofford’s tailgating traditions. “We love the atmosphere here at Wofford surrounding our Terriers football games, not only for our students, but for our loyal alumni and their families,” he says. “Game day at Wofford is a special time for camaraderie and fellowship, and the number of families that make it a tradition speaks volumes about the love our alumni have for their alma mater.”
