SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Unlike typical divas, often notorious for jealousy and artistic differences, “The Blonde, the Brunette and the Redhead” – Leigha Pace, Cathy Siarris and Lisa Sain Odom, respectively – actually get along quite harmoniously.
The three make up a soprano trio that will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in Wofford College’s Leonard Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public. Accompanying the three will be W. Gary McCraw, associate professor and director of music at Wofford.
The trio, all Converse College alumnae, was formed six years ago and has become a favorite musical group in the Upstate.
The sopranos are each educators as well as performers. Pace is director of choral activities at Union High School in Union, S.C. She holds a bachelor of music degree from Winthrop University and master of music degrees in vocal performance and education from Converse College.
Siarris is an adjunct professor of voice at Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. She also teaches voice at the Lawson Academy at Converse and at Spartanburg Community College. She holds a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from Converse, a master of music degree in opera from Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, and a doctor of musical arts degree in vocal performance from the University of South Carolina.
Odom is a full-time professor of voice at Clemson University. She holds a bachelor of music degree from Bob Jones University, a master of music degree from Converse College and a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of South Carolina, all in vocal performance.
Each woman brings her own creative approach to the process of choosing music, planning, staging and preparing a program. Although they have much in common, the differences in their voices, performing techniques and background keep things interesting for them and for their audiences. They perform a variety of opera arias, musical theater numbers, jazz and contemporary selections.
