APO turns 50

Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity celebrates golden anniversary.

The Pi Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity, celebrated 50 years at Wofford College on Feb. 6, 2016.

Sixty-three members gathered on campus to celebrate the occasion, sharing stories of fellowship, friendship and service from over the years at a special dinner and rededication. Alumni from each decade, including two of the chapter’s charter members, were in attendance. Scott Cochran ’88, president of Spartanburg Methodist College, offered the keynote address, encouraging all in attendance to bloom where they are planted and to invest and serve in their own communities.

“We look forward to using the momentum of this event to launch our chapter to thrive in our three cardinal principals of leadership, friendship and service," says Taylor Thomas ’13, chapter adviser.

In 2015, the Pi Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at Wofford College was recognized nationally as a “Chapter of Excellence,” a recognition received by only 10 percent of the more than 350 chapters nationwide.
