Paid Internship or Course Credit?

There are essentially two types of internships: those that offer payment and those that offer course credit.

Here's what you need to know: you can either be paid for your work or receive course credit, but you cannot receive both.

Contact Jennifer Dillenger, Director, The Space, at dillengerja@wofford.edu for more information about these internship options.

For Credit Internships:

The Space to Prepare: Career Services Apprenticeship Program (one credit hour)

If you find an internship and would like to receive credit for it:

  1. The internship may be completed at any time during the school year or summer break.
  2. The Space to: Prepare staff must approve the internship.
  3. The employer must provide a written letter confirming your internship placement before the internship begins. The employer must also provide a second letter confirming your satisfactory work after the internship ends.
  4. You may only complete two internships for credit under the Apprenticeship program while at Wofford.

The Space to Prepare: Career Services Interim Internship Program (four credit hours)

To secure and receive credit for an Interim internship:

  1. Find an internship that takes place during the month of January
  2. Submit the Interim Internship Application (available this fall).
  3. Register for the Learning Work Interim through The Space to: Prepare.
  4. Submit a Letter of Approval from employer at the beginning and end of the internship.

Paid Internships:

1. Paid internships may range from minimum wage opportunities to full pay positions that include housing, travel expenses and a stipend. Like all internships, you may find these on your own and participate in them at any time. They do not need to be approved through The Space to: Prepare.

2. The Richardson Summer Scholar program provides a small stipend ($1,500) to help support students who are working in unpaid internships. To apply, contact Jennifer Dillenger, Director, The Space, at dillengerja@wofford.edu
