What kind of programming can Wofford supply on their 16 channels?
Wofford provides some special programming, including a Wofford Information channel (graphics and text), SCOLA, other satellite programming, NC-ETV, WBTV (Charlotte) and many more. Faculty and staff can schedule videotapes or other programs to be shown at various times. Channel 2 will feature WOCO2, programming from the new student-run TV studio.
Can I receive premium or pay-per-view channels?
Yes. Through an independent agreement between you and Charter Cable, you can subscribe (for a nominal fee) to a digital cable TV service that will provide to you all of the programming mentioned above plus many other channels, including premium movie channels, digital music channels, and pay-per-view programs. Contact Charter at (864) 585-0354 or at their website for more details.
How do I know what's on TV?
Because Charter provides most of our programming, you will be watching the same channels as all other cable subscribers in Spartanburg. You can get a weekly TV viewing guide in the Sunday Edition of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, you can subscribe to TV Guide, or you can see listings online at Yahoo or the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.
Is there any special equipment required?
No. A functional cable-ready television and a quality coax cable is all that is needed. No converter boxes are necessary for reception of standard programming on a cable-ready TV set.
How do I get connected?
Simply connect one end of your coax cable to the VHF input on the back of your TV, and connect the other end to the round jack on the white wall box in your room or office. Plug your TV into the wall socket, turn on the power to the TV on, and enjoy.
What if I don't have the correct coax-type connection on my TV?
Some older TVs will not have the coax-type connector on the TV. An adapter or converter box may be required. Consult the owner's manual with that TV set for more instructions. Any additional equipment needed can be purchased at local electronic supply shops.
What if I'm not receiving all of the channels you listed?
You probably need to adjust the tuner setting to "Cable" or "CATV" instead of "Air" or "Antenna" on your TV. Most relatively new TVs have a menu system that provides these adjustments. Also, the TV may need to run through a channel "autoprogram" sequence to receive all channels. If you are not using a cable-ready TV, a cable television converter box may be required. Consult the user's manual for your TV for more information.
I can't get my TV to work properly. Who should I contact?
First, if you suspect a problem with the cable TV signal, borrow a neighbor's TV and connecting cable and confirm that the jack in your room is working. If you suspect your TV set is not working properly, consult the yellow pages for local TV repair shops. If the cable TV jack in your room or office is broken, call the Technology Service Center at HELP (4357).
