How Much Is That Dog In the Window?
When mulling over project ideas for spring, 2009, Magen Fowler spotted a neglected dog on her way home. She began thinking about what she could do to aid animals in the upstate, and, after a few weeks, she had a successful internship with the Spartanburg Humane Society. All spring, Magen spent several hours per week working with the Society's Public Education program. She travelled to local schools, afterschool programs, and libraries to educate children on responsible pet ownership. On days she was at the Humane Society, Magen led tours of the facility and spoke with incoming groups. Magen's work with these children will surely have a lasting impact on their treatment of animals and positively effect the future of Spartanburg's pet population.
