Service Opportunities

Jamboread- Spartanburg Public Library  

Jamboread, an annual event hosted by The Spartanburg County Public Library, will be held Saturday, March 3rd from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Volunteers are  needed to help with crowd management, face painting, crafts, book signing, directions, parking, dress as characters, assisting performers, shelving books in the children's area and a variety of other duties. Volunteers who work the full 7.5 hours will receive a lunch. Part time volunteers can work 9 .am. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation.  If you are interested, please contact Laura Perricone at (864) 596-3500 ext. 1258 or laurap@infodepot.org.

Bethlehem Center

The Bethlehem Center, a community center in the Highlands area of Spartanburg is hosting a fundraising event March 21-23 and is in need of volunteers to help with set up at Bethel United Methodist Church from 9:00am-8:00pm.  The event will feature the sale of ball gowns.  If you are interested, please contact Jenifer Steller at jenifersteller@yahoo.com.

Micah 6

Volunteer at Lone Oak Elementary with Micah 6, an after school tutoring and mentoring program. Micah 6 meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tutors are need to help serve snacks to the students, assist them with their homework, and join them in games and other activities outdoors. South Carolina Qualifying Speech and Debate Tournament

Volunteers are needed to judge this year’s South Carolina Qualifying Speech and Debate Tournament to be held March 6-8 2007 at Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg.   Training for all events is provided and no experience is necessary.  The students, ages 12-18, use this tournament as an opportunity to polish their public speaking skills in a variety of areas.  For more information, please contact Wendi Sanders at wsvols@charter.net.
