“You get tired of keeping it all inside,” says a terminally ill man in The Shadow Box, winner of both the Tony and the Pulitzer prize awards for best play in 1977, “but it’s like nobody wants to hear about it.”

Theatre as an art form and a discipline is an essential part of the liberal arts, and this play's interrogation of our rituals surrounding the end of life brings into focus a question at the heart of the liberal arts as well: how does knowing we are going to die help us figure out what we are living for.

Location: Tony White Theater
