Senior Circuit...Colleen Rice
Cape Haze, Fla., is a small town about halfway between Sarasota and Fort Myers. It’s about as South as you can get, but Colleen Rice wanted “southern” when looking for a college. She found it in Spartanburg, S.C.
“I came to visit Wofford on an official visit through athletics,” says Rice. “I fell so madly in love with Wofford and its southern charm that I just could not picture myself anywhere else.”
Rice plays golf at Wofford, but she stays as involved as she can in most of the sports here. She loves to go to all the sporting events and support the other athletes “who work so hard to play great for their school.”
Academically, her focus is not much different than it would be aiming for the green on a par 3.
“I am a biology major,” she says. “I have never changed my major -- always knew that I wanted to be in the medical field. I plan to work for a year, then get my accelerated Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, then my Masters in nurshing/health administration.
With graduation approaching, Rice says the four years here in the “real South” have been like a perfect round of golf…filled with memorable shots.
“I love so much about Wofford that I can't even imagine picking out just one memory,” she says. “Being from Florida, I have really enjoyed watching the seasons change. Especially my first fall and then first snowfall. I love the fall leaves every year, and really enjoyed sledding down the hills at Wofford when it snowed!
“Most recently, though, I was fortunate enough to travel to Egypt for Interim 2009 (see picture). It was an amazing experience and I learned so much about the Egyptians as well as about myself. We climbed Mt. Sinai, went inside the Great Pyramids, saw the Sphinx, and took a cruise down the Nile River for 3 days. It was something that I will always remember about my senior year at Wofford.”
