Senior Circuit...John Robert Barth

John Robert Barth grew up in Florence, S.C. His reason for coming to Wofford is a common one. Having gone to a small private high school, he sought a similar atmosphere in a college.

“I liked the small school atmosphere which I was accustomed to,” he says. “I wanted a school where I could form personal relationships with my professors instead of one where I would be just a number to them.”

Barth has taken the small school ball and run with it, becoming involved in multiple activities since his arrival in Spartanburg.

“Since my freshman year I have been on Campus Union, Wofford Activities Committee, and Wofford Ambassadors,” he says. “My sophomore and junior years I was a Residential Peer Mentor. This past year I was on the Election & Nominations Committee and Student Alumni Association, and I was one of the student representatives at the Board of Trustees meetings.”

Barth started out as a business economics major, but that changed.

“Now I am a finance major with a minor in history,” he says. “I switched to finance my sophomore year because I felt it would better prepare me for the type of job I would be interested in after graduating.”

With that day drawing closer and closer, Barth says his post-Wofford future has a few broad strokes put down, but there is no fine print…yet.

“I do not have any definite plans for my post college life, but I do have two jobs lined up at home for the summer,” says Barth. “One is in marketing, which is the field that I would like to enter. In the fall, I am planning to move to Charleston for a few years, and then possibly going back to school to get a Masters.”

In the meantime, there is still at least a month to make more memories here at Wofford, to add to the many he has already accumulated.

“Some of my greatest memories here are from Spring Weekend,” says Barth. “Not only is Spring Weekend really fun, but also since I was on WAC I saw it go from planning stages to actual events. It was great to see the whole school enjoying our hard work.”
