Senior Circuit...Ashley Harmon-Poston

After attending a small private high school in Columbia, Ashley HarmonPoston thought she wanted to go to a big public university. Thus, the Newberry, S.C., native spent her freshman year at the University of North Carolina.

aharm200“Although it was fun, the academic experience was not what I wanted,” the Wofford senior says. “I came to visit Wofford in January of my freshman year and immediately I knew it was the place for me! Everyone was so welcoming and it was almost as if I felt more comfortable at Wofford after one day than I did at UNC after an entire semester!”

HarmonPoston is currently a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, the Wofford Honor Council, Order of Omega, Goldtones, Wofford Singers, and the Student Alumni Association. She has been vice president administration for her sorority, a Wofford cheerleader AND a member of the Wofford Dance Team. And she was on the 2007 Orientation Staff.

Clearly, this is a woman who doesn’t like to let life pass her by.

“I make new memories every day at Wofford,” she says. “From meals in Burwell to hanging out with my roommates in my apartment at all hours, to sorority functions to football and basketball games…I have too many memories to count! Wofford definitely gave me the best three years of my life and I can't imagine what my college experience would have been like had I not decided to transfer here!”

Academically HarmonPoston is pulled in two entirely different directions.

“I took an Art History class during my first semester at Wofford and immediately fell in love with the subject, so I decided it would be the perfect major for me,” she says. “However, I took an accounting class the next semester and enjoyed it just as much! I decided not to overload myself by pursuing a double major, but I have balanced my art history major with a lot of accounting classes. I also added a gender studies concentration, which has allowed me to take upper-level classes in English and history.”

Her Wofford career is soon to be history, and HarmonPoston isn’t quite sure what the next phase of her life will bring.

“I am not entirely sure what the future holds, but I have some short-term plans,” she says. “I will be pursuing my Masters of Accounting next year at Wake Forest University. After that, who knows? I will only be 22 when I complete the Masters of accounting program so I will have a lot of time ahead of me. I may pursue graduate school for art history, arts administration, or art markets after I get my CPA, but that's not set in stone. Eventually, I want to figure out a way to combine my love of art history and business. I'm just not exactly sure how to do it yet!”
