Senior Circuit...Robert Harris

Robert Harris grew up just outside of Columbia in Lexington, S.C. Oddly enough, it wasn’t a friend, family member, or even a guidance counselor that pointed him in the direction of Spartanburg for his college education.

harris200“Not knowing where I wanted to go to college, I asked my AP Calculus teacher, who recommended Wofford to me,” says Harris. “I visited the campus and loved it.”

A resident assistant since his sophomore year, Harris also leads Sunday Night Prayer, an organization that meets in Mickel Chapel every week. And for exercise, there’s always ultimate Frisbee. He’s been a member of the ultimate Frisbee team since his freshman year.

“My best memories of Wofford range from amazing dives on the frisbee field to volunteering to teach chemistry with professors for after-school programs and Boy Scouts,” says Harris. “I also have awesome memories from the internship I participated in at the University of Vienna in Austria this past summer as part of my ECS requirements, where I did research in the area of Theoretical Chemistry.”

Harris is a chemistry and mathematics double major with an emphasis in computational science. He was a chemistry major from Day One. He enjoyed his math and computer science classes so much that he added a math major and an ECS.

As for the future, it’s looking pretty bright.

“I am going to Graduate School in the fall,” says Harris. “I have been accepted to Vanderbilt University, Duke University, and the University of Tennessee. I want to get my PhD in Organic Chemistry. After graduate school, I hope to do research in pharmaceuticals, and later teach at a small college.”
