Senior Circuit: Drew Bryan

Senior Drew Bryan grew up in Spartanburg, but he didn’t choose to attend Wofford to stay close to home. That’s because home is now Johns Island, S.C.

bryan200“The size of Wofford was key in my decision,” he says. “I liked being able to walk across campus and feel like a part of a community. Also, I knew the academics were rigorous and well respected, and this would provide an advantage in applying to medical school.”

Now, medical school is not a certainty.

“My original plans entering Wofford were to continue to medical school,” says Bryan, whose major has always been biology. “For curiosity’s sake, I started taking business courses my sophomore year and will finish with a business minor. Combining what I have learned as a biology major about health care and using my business interest and background, I think health care administration will be an interesting field that will see many changes in the coming years.

“I am taking a year off after graduation, to volunteer with a campus ministry at Wofford and to discern what God has for the rest of my life. I have seen God provide a lot of change in my life in the last four years, and the friendships and community with the faculty and staff at Wofford have been such an important part of this journey.”

A year off is warranted, considering his many involvements here at Wofford. There are so many that a list is in order…

* He has served on the Campus Union all four years…as a freshmen and sophomore delegate, Facility Affairs committee chair, and now vice president.
* Has served with Campus Outreach - campus ministry
* Has served as a resident advisor for three years, and is currently a senior R.A. in The Village.
* Has served as chaplain and scholarship chair for Sigma Alpha Epsilon
* Founded Wofford Collegiate Council, a March of Dimes organization focused on educating the campus about the risk of premature births and the means to prevent prematurity
* Served on the March of Dimes National Youth Council, a group of 20 college students from around the nation helping to coordinate youth efforts of fundraising and mission awareness for the March of Dimes.
* Volunteered with the Math Academy his junior year at Cleveland Elementary School
* Served as secretary for the Blue Key Honor Society

With all of that, Bryan was asked whether any memories stand out from his time here.

“My best memories have been the trips with friends throughout the years at Wofford,” he says. “From snow skiing to relaxing in the mountains after Interim to swimming in the lake before school started back…the times with friends I’ve made at Wofford have been some of the most meaningful.”
