Senior Circuit: Joey Taylor

As a high school student in Houston, Tex., Joey Taylor liked what he saw on his first visit to Wofford…as a sophomore.

“My first impressions of Wofford were great,” says Taylor. “I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the small school. That was a main reason why I decided on Wofford over some other schools. Another reason I decided to come to Wofford was the soccer program. I liked the idea of being a part of a growing program and being able to contribute immediately.”

He has certainly done that. Taylor, the team’s goalkeeper, equaled a 28-year old school record by posting six shutouts last season. His 11 career shutouts are tops in Wofford history. He was selected Southern Conference Player of the Week last year, becoming just the second player in school history to receive that honor from the league.

“I have been involved in the soccer program and SAAC for all of my years here at Wofford,” says Taylor. “Outside of Wofford, I coach local goalkeepers at Carolina FC here in Spartanburg.”

Academically, Taylor is a finance major. He looks to use that when he returns to Houston upon graduation.

“As of now I am going back home to Houston to work for a contracting company,” he says. “I plan to get my national coaching diploma next summer and continue to coach soccer, too.”

As for the past four years, he says his best memories involve the soccer team.

“Our comeback victory over Elon my sophomore year may be the best,” he says. “Our victory over Furman this year is right up there, though.”
