Senior Circuit: Kate DempseyKate Dempsey came to Wofford on a basketball scholarship four years ago. The Burlington, N.C., native knew that Wofford was a good fit the moment she traveled down I-85 to see it for the first time.

“It was my official visit,” she recalls. “I really enjoyed it and realized that Wofford would be a good place for me.”
She hit the ground running (and jumping) for the women’s basketball team, hauling in a career-high 11 rebounds in her very first game as a freshman. She has been a steady contributor ever since, averaging 4.9 points and 2.8 rebounds last year as a junior (with 16 starts) and 2.8 points and five rebounds in four games this season. She also had 29 blocks last season and four so far in 2008-09.
But basketball hasn’t been her only involvement. She’s also a member of SAAC (student athlete advisory committee) and Kappa Delta.
Dempsey’s major is business economics.
“I did have trouble deciding on that but I haven’t changed,” she says. “My future is filled with limitless opportunities. I don’t know what my plans are after graduation, but I kind of like it that way.”
As she looks back on her time here at Wofford, the 6-foot-3 Dempsey says it’s difficult to choose one memory that stands out above the others.
“I don’t know if I have a best moment,” she says. “Wofford has provided plenty of great moments. I would say that being part of the women’s basketball team has definitely made my experience here that much more memorable.”
