Senior Circuit: Austin FitchAustin Fitch shopped around when looking for a college to attend. Born and raised in Lexington, Ky., he wanted to stay in the Southeast. He also wanted a smaller school so as not to be “just another number.” Once he visited Wofford, he knew he’d found the right place.

“I feel that one of the best things about Wofford is that you can literally walk into a professor’s office and talk about anything, class-related or not,” says Fitch. “After seeing the strong sense of community on campus and the excellent educational opportunities, I was sold.”
Fitch has made the most of his three and a half years here. He’s been involved in so many things it seems a list is in order…
• Now serving as treasurer of the senior class: “It’s been a unique opportunity to be able to plan some of the final events we will have here at Wofford (this year).”
• Has served as president and treasurer for Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and played intramurals in Terrier Tag, basketball and softball.
• Currently a fund manager of the James Student-Managed Investment Fund (see picture below), where he gets to make decisions regarding investments in a real-world portfolio.
• Has been on the Orientation Staff for three years, serving as the social chair his junior year: “Welcoming students to Wofford has been so much fun as we try to ease their fears and make them understand just how special Wofford is.”
• Served as chief junior marshal for Wofford’s commencement activities at end of junior year.
• Other activities: Financial Affairs Committee, Athletic Ad-Hoc Committee, physics lab teaching assistant, tutor in physics, finance, and math
Fitch juggles so many things, it’s no surprise he’s a double major.
“I originally came to Wofford thinking I would be a math major and possibly add a physics major to pursue some sort of engineering graduate
degree,” he says. “However, after taking an introductory finance class during the first semester of my sophomore year and not being as interested in physics as I thought I would be, I found that I truly enjoy finance. So now I’m a mathematics and finance double major.”
When graduation arrives in May, Fitch isn’t sure where he will be at this moment.
“As of now, I am unsure of my plans,” he says. “I am trying to decide between going to a graduate program for a master’s degree in business administration or getting a job in investment banking or corporate finance. I am currently researching graduate programs and job possibilities to determine the best fit for me. Regardless of which option I choose, I plan on getting my MBA at some point in my professional career.”
When asked to share his best memory of Wofford, Fitch says he struggles to come up with just one.
“Wofford has provided me with all kinds of amazing memories,” says Fitch. “My time here has definitely been the best four years of my life. By getting involved on campus, I have been able to develop friendships and relationships that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I have been truly blessed to find some of the best friends that anyone could ask for here at Wofford.
“Whether it was eating lunch in Burwell, going to a football game, or even hanging out in a dorm room, my time here at Wofford has been filled with all kinds of lifelong memories.”
