Senior Circuit: Alexandra Corby

You can take the girl out of Louisiana, but you can’t take Louisiana out of Wofford senior Alexandra Corby. A Baton Rouge native, she chose Wofford because she wanted a small liberal arts college in the South and her college counselor suggested she visit the campus. Once she did, she knew where she wanted to go.

corby200“I fell in love with the strong Southern heritage, academia environment, beautiful campus, and, of course, all of the friendly people,” says Corby.

She brought with her from Louisiana a strong desire to get involved at her new home away from home. She is a former president of Delta Delta Delta sorority, has been a Gamma Chi recruitment counselor and also a member of Alpha Phi Omega. She also works with the track and cross country teams.

And that’s just the beginning. She really wants to get involved in politics.

“I've always loved diplomatic policy and international cultures, and after studying abroad (Copenhagen, Denmark) and learning about politics in the rest of the world, combining the two just seemed natural,” says Corby, whose major is government with a concentration in world politics and a minor in Chinese language and culture studies.

Having interned under a Louisiana senator in Washington, D.C. and also on the state level in her home state, she is very interested in getting a job in our nation’s capital.

“Hopefully, I'll end up in Washington,” she says. “I'm very interested in politics. I'd like to eventually attend law school, but right now I'm on the job hunt. We'll see how the election goes today to see which jobs become available in Washington!”

There is still another six months to go in her senior year, though. The first three and a half years have been so much fun, she doesn’t want to forget to enjoy the precious present.

“As senior year is winding down, I've been thinking what I'll miss most about Wofford,” says Corby. “Of course I'll miss everyday things like the campus atmosphere, band parties at The Row, and football tailgates, but it's the people I'll miss most. They've really made an impact on who I've become and how I've grown over the past four years. Being so far away from Louisiana, Wofford has become my second home, and there will always be a piece of me here.”
