Senior Circuit: Collins McCrawCollins McCraw didn’t have to think long and hard about where to attend college. In fact, he jokes that the decision was made for him when he was about 3 years old.
McCraw grew up in Spartanburg. He attended Broome High School, where he says he was “a proud Centurion.” His grandfather graduated from Wofford in 1946. His father got his Wofford diploma in 1977. Not only is Wofford College in his blood, the city of Spartanburg is, as well.
“Spartanburg has developed greatly over the last several years,” he says. “Improvements have been made to the downtown area and it was been wonderful.”
McCraw’s initial interest in terms of majors was history or psychology. His father, W. Gary McCraw, is an associate professor and director of music at Wofford. Despite all of that, he has since become a religion major.
“It changed my sophomore year when I thought I wanted to go to divinity school, and even though those plans have changed, I still love being a religion major,” he says.
McCraw has been active at Wofford, involving himself with Wofford Ambassadors, Heritage Society, intramural sports, United, and as a sideline reporter for the Wofford football team.
What does the future hold? For now, a degree is the only sure thing.
“My plans for next year are still up in the air,” he says. “Broadcast journalism at South Carolina is a possibility, among others. Five years from now I have no idea where I’ll be. Working for ESPN would be nice.”
