Senior Circuit: James Koutroulias

Senior James Koutroulias didn’t have to travel far to attend Wofford College. A native Spartan, he was very familiar with the campus and the college itself. No need to travel somewhere else when Wofford had the small school atmosphere he desired.

jamesk200Koutroulias has a wide array of interests. He’s currently involved with Success Initiative, the ACM (Association for Computer Machinery), College Bowl, programming competitions, and he works in the Wofford Web office. He has also been part of the rifle team and has worked with Wofford College Radio.

“I started Wofford as a computer science major and have kept that major,” he says. “My minor is something I wasn’t originally planning, though. As I was planning my schedule, I realized I needed more classes to keep my hours up, so I signed up for an economics class. After going through the class, I realized I enjoyed it, so I signed up for it as my minor.”

Koutroulias says keeping busy with so many interests is a good thing, as long as you find the right balance.

“If you work too much, you’ll stress yourself out,” he says. “But if you party too much, you won’t get anything done. You always need to find some sort of medium to keep yourself sane.”

Now that he’s well into his senior year, sanity intact, it’s time to look beyond 2008 and his post-Wofford future. He says the future might take the man out of Spartanburg, but it will never take Spartanburg out of the man.

“After this year I plan on finding a job somewhere near or in Spartanburg before continuing into grad school,” he says. “This way, I can decide what I enjoy working on, using my CS knowledge, and continue on in that field during grad school.”
