Senior Circuit: Jessie Davis
As a high school senior in Loudon, Tenn., Jessie Davis remembers choosing Wofford for a couple of reasons. One, she was offered a scholarship. Two, she had a friend who attended a school nearby. And three, the campus just felt right.

“My mom came with me to Night and Day, and said to me ‘You know Jessie, I can see you here,” says Davis. “Wofford is so much more to me than a scholarship and a feeling now, though. It is part of me. I’ve grown academically and personally through lasting, meaningful relationships.”
She says her best memories have involved random moments with friends, although some things stand out.
“My interim trip to Oxford, England,” she says. “My independent study on Indian culture followed by a subsequent summer mission trip to India. The satisfaction that came from learning I could do things I didn’t know I was capable of doing. Exploring my interest in photography. The list could go on.
“I have been most involved with being a resident assistant (two years in Marsh hall and now in the Village). There’s also Success Initiative, where I have been blessed with some great projects and internships that have helped make me more employable and have narrowed down what I want to do in life.”
Davis came to Wofford seeking a degree in business or finance, thinking it was the practical thing to do. The classes she took changed her mind, though.
“I never actually declared that major, and I ended up choosing history after really enjoying my freshman Western Civilization classes, and then sociology (double major) after a social services summer internship with a non-profit in Atlanta through Success Initiative.”
Davis has one more year at Wofford, but she plans on sticking around for a little while, at least.
“My tentative plan is to remain in Spartanburg for a year or so and use what contacts I have here to hopefully work for a local non-profit,” she says. “In that time, I will be able to discern whether grad school is the next step, and if so, earn some money to facilitate that path.”
Whatever happens next, she is happy with what has happened to bring her to this point.
“I am so thankful that God led me to Wofford and I am excited for what else He has in store, whatever that may be,” says Davis.
