The James E. Seegars Award

seegarsDr. James Seegars was a member of the Wofford faculty from 1962 until his retirement in 1999, serving as chairman of the department for 37 years. As one  of the first psychologists in the Spartanburg area, Seegars helped to establish Wofford’s psychology department and was a part-time mental heal practitioner in Spartanburg for many years. In 1997, he received the Davenport Distinguished Service Award from the Mental Health Association of the Piedmont.  Dr. Seegars received a A.B. from the Citadel, an M.S. from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.  During his tenure, Dr. Seegars wrote various psychology articles, was director of the Counseling and Research Center at Wofford, received the Vernon Caldwell Award at Wofford, and was responsible for reviving the Wofford tennis program. 

Presented each year by the Psychology faculty to an outstanding senior in recognition of academic excellence.
