125 students from Southeast to competeSPARTANBURG, S.C.
– Some of the brightest high school students in the Southeast will converge on the Wofford College campus on Saturday, Feb. 27, for High School Quiz Bowl Tournament.
Teams from South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Kentucky – totaling about 125 students – will compete from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. in various locations in Wofford’s Main Building. This is the second year Wofford has hosted the event.
“Quiz bowls give bright students a chance to use their talents in a competitive atmosphere,” says organizer Dr. Matt Cathey, assistant professor of mathematics. “As a whole, these students have a deep thirst for knowledge, and anything we can do that encourages them to seek that knowledge fits well into Wofford’s mission.”
He adds that some 35 volunteers – Wofford faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends – will be assisting in the event.
“We hope to grow this event as we continue to attract students from throughout the Southeast and beyond,” Cathey says.
