SPARTANBURG, SC - Dr. Constance Dean Armitage Antonsen, who taught art history at Wofford for 29 years beginning in 1963, died in Inman, S.C., on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010. She was 95.
Dr. Antonsen brought to her classes not only fascinating lectures but also an inspirational love of her subject that stemmed from extensive travel and command of 13 languages. She also coached a popular fencing team and was a pioneer in offering Interim courses involving foreign travel and study. She helped set the stage for today’s major program in art history.
