Berg to be Jones Visiting Professor of History

Dr. Manfred Berg, a German citizen who is an expert in modern American history, will serve this spring as the 2009 Lewis P. Jones Visiting Professor of History at Wofford College.

Berg is the Curt Engelhorn Professor of American History at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He has published a book titled “The Ticket to Freedom: The NAACP and the Struggle for Black Political Integration.”

Berg received his M.A. and Ph.D. in modern history from the University of Heidelberg.

The Lewis P. Jones Distinguished Visiting Professor in History was established by George Dean Johnson Jr. (Class of 1964) and his wife, Susan Phifer Johnson, in honor of Wofford Professor of History Emeritus Lewis P. Jones, who died in 2007.
